EMPOWER PEO MEMBERS

PEO has a $25 million budget and a staff of 110.

Do all engineering disciplines get equal treatment?

Do members of all disciplines need their P.Eng. to do their work?

Is PEO still relevant? Is the Profession failing?

It is time to confront these serious questions.

PEO was developed in 1922 when there were 5 disciplines of Engineering, each with 3 members on Council. Today, with over 30 disciplines of engineering and growing at an accelerating pace, 3 representatives per discipline is not possible. We need modernization.

PEO has drifted for many decades oblivious to the growth of technology. The Profession has not paid attention to maintaining restricted practices in all disciplines as the scope of engineering expanded. The majority of engineering disciplines today do not enjoy the privileges of a proper Licence.

PEO is failing in its primary mandate to license the practice of all Engineering in Ontario.

We need major organizational change to EMPOWER PEO MEMBERS so that all engineering disciplines enjoy a restricted practice.  General governance proposals bog down in PEO. While useful, revising old proposals for term limits and succession planning is tinkering.

Painting an old rusty car is not good enough. PEO needs a new BUS.

Members need to trust in their Council. Breaking a significant commitment to members destroys that trust. My opponent voted to renege on calling for a referendum that Council had promised. This is intolerable. Members must be able to trust that Council will do what it says irrespective of the issue.

In contrast to my opponents, I have the experience and a proven track record of bringing significant positive

change to the profession. Experience Matters.

Now is not the time to take chances with inexperience and narrow visions of the Profession.

Now is the time to put your trust in someone who will deliver positive change.

Make the engineering profession relevant in all engineering disciplines.

With your support, we can EMPOWER PEO MEMBERS.

Trust in the voice of experience.

Vote Peter DeVita for President Elect.                      Thank you.
